National Peace Council kick-start two-day training workshop on peace for political parties
The training program will focus on conflict prevention, mediation, communication strategies, and building consensus, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to a peaceful electoral environment.
The National Peace Council in collaboration with Star Ghana International is organizing a two-day training for political parties and journalist on peace building ahead of the 2024 December general elections.
The two-day training workshop which started last Monday, 4th March 2024 at Hotel de Georgio in the Bono East regional capital, Techiman, is aimed to equip the stakeholder’s regards to the election to be updated on preaching peace to their supporters ahead of the general election while enhancing the capacity of party members to engage in constructive dialogue, resolve disputes peacefully, and uphold democratic values and principles.
The training program will focus on conflict prevention, mediation, communication strategies, and building consensus, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to a peaceful electoral environment.
While addressing the participants and for that matter the nation as a whole during the first day of the training, The Bono East Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prince Owusu Asaku, urged political parties to to prioritize peace and recognize its irreplaceable value underscores the importance of prioritizing peace, stability, and unity in the electoral process as he advocated for peaceful election process
“We in Bono East really need peace before, during and after the December polls due to what has happened in the region before as a result of election violence especially what happened during the last general elections in Techiman.”
“This training will help us a lot to maintain in peace in Techiman, in 2016, the people were educated on the need for peace and as a result, nothing bad happened in Techiman, in 2016, everything went well until they were collating the results and as a result, National Peace Council has decided to meet all political parties and educate them on the need for peace to prevail during, before, and after the elections.”
He revealed that, the National Peace Council will conduct similar training for political parties in all the 16 regions in the country.
Some of the political representatives spoke to the media and promising their support ahead of the election to make it free and fair.
“We have learn a lot from this training, it will help us to identify conflict, solve conflicts and analysis conflict situations among us as political parties so it’s a call in the right direction.” A participant told our reporter.
