The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly condemned acts of lawlessness following the December 7 elections, regardless of whether they were committed by its supporters or those of other parties.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC noted that some acts of vandalism and destruction of state property were linked to disgruntled New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters.

These supporters reportedly believe that their party’s parliamentary candidates hoarded state-procured food, fertilizer, and other materials intended for distribution as part of the NPP’s voter inducement strategy.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has noted with dismay, the vandalism of state properties by some persons in certain parts of the country since Monday, 8th December 2024 – Some of these unfortunate incidents are reported to have been carried out by over-jubilant supporters of the NDC who have been carried away by the excitement of the party’s resounding victory in the just-ended Presidential and Parliamentary elections.”

The NDC further acknowledged the growing frustration of Ghanaians with the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led NPP administration.

However, the party called for calm and responsible conduct, especially among its loyal and enthusiastic supporters.

Accordingly, the NDC urged Ghanaians, particularly its rank and file, to exercise restraint and celebrate the party’s victory with dignity and a sense of responsibility.

The party emphasized that while the public’s anger against the NPP government is understandable, it is essential to maintain peace and avoid any actions that could jeopardize public order or Ghana’s democratic integrity.

Furthermore, the NDC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding probity and accountability as key pillars of good governance.

The party emphasized that this commitment would be demonstrated from the moment it assumes office on January 7, 2025.

According to the NDC, all actions will be guided strictly by the rule of law, ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity in the management of state resources.

The party pledged to hold public officials accountable, combat corruption, and restore public confidence in the country’s governance system.

“The vandalism of state property, mob justice, and any form of lawless retribution have the potential to undermine the peace and stability of our dear nation, hence unacceptable.

“Such lawless acts constitute grievous offenses under the laws of Ghana and will not be countenanced by the Ghana Police Service.”

Accordingly, the NDC called for calm and restraint among its supporters across all sixteen (16) regions of Ghana.

The party urged its members and sympathizers to avoid any actions that could disrupt peace or create unnecessary tension in the post-election period.

Emphasizing the need for patience and responsible conduct, the NDC assured its supporters that it remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring a smooth political transition.

The party highlighted the importance of maintaining national unity and preserving Ghana’s hard-earned reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

“Comrades, our hard-fought and long-awaited victory has finally arrived,”
further calling on its supporters to celebrate its recent electoral victory with a sense of responsibility and decorum.

The party emphasized the importance of peaceful celebrations, urging members to avoid actions that could incite violence, create public disorder, or tarnish the country’s democratic reputation.

The NDC further assured its supporters that the incoming government, led by President-elect John Dramani Mahama, is committed to addressing their concerns and delivering on its promises in strict accordance with the rule of law.

By urging responsible celebrations, the party aims to foster unity, preserve peace, and demonstrate its readiness to lead with integrity and accountability.

The party emphasized that the long-awaited day of accountability has finally arrived, underscoring the importance of public patience during this crucial period.
