NDC demands Arrest and Prosecution of Snr Minister Osafo Maafo

Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has waded into the call on President, Nana Akufo-Addo to immediately order the arrest and prosecution of his Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo.

General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia made this pronouncements when he addressed the media on Monday in Accra.

The opposition party alleged that Osafo Maafo breached the Public Procurement Act (PPA) by allegedly paying Gh₵4,869,421.87 to Kroll Associates for a contract awarded in September 2017 with the effective date of February 13, 2017.

“President Akufo-Addo must demonstrate that no one is above the laws of Ghana including Yaw Osafo Maafo,” he said.

The General Secretary recalled the number of NDC folks that the  Attorney-General, Miss Gloria Afua Akuffo has hauled before the courts for allegedly breaching the Public Procurement Act.

“We wonder why the Attorney-General is not showing the same interest in having Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo arrested and charged,” he added.

The NDC explained  that, the Auditor-General, through his diligence identified some “corrupt” acts of the Senior Minister and ever since has been harassed for making it public.

According to the party, the victimization being perpetuated by the Akufo-Addo led-government towards the Auditor-Genera (Mr Dumelovo) is an attempt to “gag him and subsequently remove him from office because of his uncompromising stance in the fight against corruption.”

The party  further noted that instead of the government applauding the Auditor-General for courageously stepping out to demand accountability, rather they turn to frustrate him.

The Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo on November 5, 2019, uncovered some rots over  government’s contract with Kroll Associates UK to provide consultancy services but documents attached were unsatisfactory.

The Auditor-General therefore demanded proof of work done by Kroll Associates and was not satisfied because there was no evidence of work being done, but the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo only provided assurances.
