Leading opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Akufo-Addo led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of allegedly trying to sabotage the Auditor General, Mr Daniel Yaw Dumelovo with the intentions to kick him out of office.

According to the NDC, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), is allegedly acting on “certain” interests in the NPP to illegitimately investigate Mr Dumelovo. This they said is part of a bigger scheme to eventually kick the Auditor General out.

“What is being presented as a routine investigation into allegations of wrongdoing is in fact an attempt to gag the Auditor-General and subsequently remove him from office”.

At a press conference today addressed by the party’s general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC said Mr Dumelovo’s outfit is investigating Senior Minster, Yaw Osafo Maafo for his alleged involvement in a scandal under which a huge sum of money was paid to Kroll Associates for “no work done”. The NDC believes, the ruling government is trying to sabotage the auditor general to keep the issue quiet.

“This EOCO investigation is designed as retribution against Mr. Domelevo because he has been on the tail of Yaw Osafo Maafo over the latter’s involvement in the massive corruption scandal under which $ 1 million was paid to Kroll Associates, a UK company for no work done,” Asiedu Nketia revealed.

According to the NDC, Mr Domelevo had already addressed the senior minister, outlining reasons why certain payments to Kroll Associates had to be disallowed, as well as have him surcharged for Gh₵4,869,421.87 .

“The Auditor-General, in a letter dated 24th September, 2019, addressed to the Senior Minister, outlined reasons why the Senior Minister’s payment to Kroll Associates was to be disallowed and have him surcharged for the amount of Gh₵4,869,421.87 the equivalent of US$1,031,460.50 being payment to Kroll Associates for a contract awarded in September, 2017 with the effective date of 13th February, 2017.”

The NDC added that, EOCO should cease the wrongful investigation on Mr Domelevo since he is carrying out his duties as expected of him.
