The Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to withhold some evidence of discrepancies in Ghana’s voter register from the Electoral Commission (EC), citing strategic reasons.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, made this announcement at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1.

“We are not providing the Electoral Commission with the full gamut of what we have,” Dr. Boamah stated.

“It’s not strategic to do so.”
He also expressed concerns about the EC’s handling of a voter transfer case involving Ernest Ofori.

The NDC had previously presented five pieces of evidence to the EC, but the Commission only accepted three.

In cases where the EC disputed discrepancies, it provided explanations. Dr. Boamah believes this selective acceptance justifies the NDC’s decision to withhold further evidence.

The NDC is calling for a forensic audit of the voter register and EC’s IT systems, citing a high coefficient of bias.

“The provisional voters register…if you analyze them, would you have arrived at the same conclusion? The answer is yes,” Dr. Boamah said.
