NDC flips Ayawaso Central as Abdul Rauf Tubazu defeats Henry Quartey

Henry Quartey, the current Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, has been defeated by Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Henry Quartey, the current Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central, has been defeated by Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

Quartey, who represented the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 23,345 votes, whereas Tubazu garnered 29,755 votes to secure his win.

Charles Kwame Adams of the National Democratic Party (NDP) received a total of 163 votes. Among the 53,550 votes cast, 287 ballots were deemed invalid.

The NDC’s success in Ayawaso Central contributes to its notable achievements in other constituencies, having flipped two parliamentary seats that were previously held by the NPP in Mpohor and Sekondi.

In Mpohor, Henry Godfred Bentil of the NDC defeated the incumbent MP, John Kobina Abbam Aboah Sanie. Bentil garnered 11,680 votes, decisively surpassing Sanie’s 8,299 votes.

In Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC ousted incumbent Andrew Egyapa Mercer. Armah secured 14,558 votes (56.40%), compared to Mercer’s 11,084 votes (42.94%). A total of 25,813 votes were cast in Sekondi, with 171 ballots rejected.

These victories highlight the NDC’s growing momentum in critical constituencies, bolstering its parliamentary presence in the 2024 elections.
