NDC has moved from violence, move away too – Dafeamekpor tells NPP

“We don’t want them to go to Accra sports stadium and continue with what we saw at the polling station, constituency and regional level elections, it should be peaceful, the violence in our public elections is becoming too much especially from their side, We the NDC have moved from that long time ago.”

South Dayi Member of Parliament Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has told the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be peaceful in the conduct of their national executive elections next month.

He said the NPP must emulate the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which, in his view, has moved away from violence.

Mr Dafeamekpor said this in reaction to a comment made by a Deputy Communications officer of the NPP Abdulai Kamal Deen that an aspiring National Chair of the NPP Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim will definitely win to be the National Chairman of the governing party in order to help the party break the 8-year electoral cycle in Ghana.

Speaking on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3, Monday June 20, Kamal-Deen said “I can assure you that Stephen Ntim is going to be the National Chairman, this will be his 5th attempt to be the National Chairman. Twenty years of his adult life he has been into it, he has been working hard, he stayed fit, he showed that patience pays.

“[Ntim] is sending a message, that ‘Give me a flagbearer, I will give you a president in 2024’, simple.”

But responding to him, Mr Dafeamekpor said “It is not about just a flagbearer, what kind of a flagbearer, that is where their focus should be.

“In any case, I want to wish them well as they go for their national elections. They did the polling station we saw a lot of violence, they did the constituency one, we saw a lot more violence, the regional one was even more chaotic.

“We don’t want them to go to Accra sports stadium and continue with what we saw at the polling station, constituency and regional level elections, it should be peaceful, the violence in our public elections is becoming too much especially from their side, We the NDC have moved from that long time ago.”
