NDC MPs absent as Supreme Court gives AG more time in suit against e-levy

The Supreme Court has granted the Attorney General’s office a 14-day extension within which to file its statement of case in response to the suit against the Electronic Transaction Levy.
A Principal State Attorney on Thursday moved the motion to apply for additional time, which was not objected to by the lead counsel for the plaintiffs, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo.
Lawyer Tameklo, however, noted that he would reply to the AG’s Department after the statement of case is filed.
Applicants of the suit, Haruna Iddrisu, who is also Minority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, who is the MP for Bawku Central, and North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa were absent in court.
Presiding Judge Justice Clemence Honyenuga, who was the sole judge, granted the application of the Attorney General’s Department.
The apex court in a unanimous ruling, earlier this month, dismissed an interlocutory injunction application filed by the three MPs in an attempt to halt the implementation of the e-levy temporarily.
The policy has since been in force since Sunday, May 1.
