The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has hinted that people who have not held any position in the party before at constituency level and above cannot contest for any position in the upcoming national elections slated for October, 20, 2018.
Asiedu Nketia gave the hint at a press briefing at the party’s Headquarters in Accra on Monday where modalities for the upcoming national elections of the party were announced.
He explained that any party member who wishes to contest any position at the national level should be either a constituency executive, ex-constituency, past and current regional and national executives, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Ministers, deputies and CAP 70 appointees under the past NDC government.
The NDC chief scribe however warned that current constituency and regional executives who so desired to contest any position at the national level would have to resign those positions before picking their nomination forms.
“Before you pick your nomination form, submit a written resignation letter to the party hierarchy.
“Be mindful that you can never go back to take the position after your failed mission at the national elections,” he cautioned.
Asiedu Nketia announced that every candidate vying for any position needs one person who is an elder of the party be it a former ambassador, members of council of elders, past MMDCEs, ministers, Members of Parliament in good standing to propose the nominee.
He said the nominee must be seconded by three other persons in the same position as the proposer.
After this, there must be 100 ordinary party members, ten from each region and out of ten members there should be one each per constituency to endorse the forms of the nominee.
According to him, the filling fee for the various positions are: national chairmanship is peaked at Ghc10,000.00, vice chairpersons, general secretary goes for Ghc 8,000.00, National Executives Committee (NEC) members Ghc 2000.00, all deputy positions goe for Ghc 2000.00 each.
The rest are National Zongo caucus- Ghc 4000.00, National youth organizer – Ghc 4000.00, Women organizer – Ghc 4000.00, National Communication Officer Ghc 6000.00, National organizer Ghc 6000.00.
Filling of nomination forms begins on August 29, 2018 to September 5, 2018. September 10-13 would be for vetting/balloting, while September 12 -17 have been slated for hearing of appeals should there be any.
