NDC reaffirms Commitment to a Forensic Audit of Voters’ Register
The NDC claims that over 243,000 illegal names appear on the provisional voters' register, which necessitates investigation. Kwetey affirmed that despite the conclusion of the demonstration, their fight for electoral integrity would continue, urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to adhere to its motto of transparency.
Thousands of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took to the streets on September 17, 2024, in a nationwide demonstration demanding a forensic audit of the voters’ register. The protest aimed to push the Electoral Commission of Ghana to address concerns over alleged discrepancies in the electoral roll ahead of the upcoming December elections.
General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, expressed gratitude to the participants, stating that their strong presence sent a clear message for transparency and accountability in the electoral process. He emphasized that the demonstration was not just a protest but a declaration that Ghanaians demand integrity in their elections. “A forensic audit is a necessary step to maintain the integrity of our democracy and ensure that every vote truly counts,” he stated.

In response to the NDC’s petition submitted after the protest, the EC acknowledged receipt and assured stakeholders of its commitment to producing a credible and robust final voters’ register. Deputy Chairman Samuel Tettey stated that the processes for finalizing the register are still in their early stages and emphasized the importance of collaboration with political parties to ensure fair elections.
As tensions rise ahead of the December elections, both the NDC and EC are poised for further engagement on these critical electoral issues.
