NDC Suspends Northern Regional Vice Chair Over Bloody Attack

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Northern Regional Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Hamid Gbewaa, following a heated altercation with Hajia Shamima Yakubu at the party’s regional secretariat.

The incident, sparked by disagreements over party finances, resulted in injuries to the Northern Regional Treasurer and heightened tensions within the NDC, deepening the bloody factionalism between Haruna Iddrisu, the deposed Minority Leader and John Dramani Mahama, 2024 NDC presidential aspirant.

Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, announced that Alhaji Gbewaa is believed to be Haruna Iddrisu boy has been suspended for a period of three months, pending further investigations and processes to address the issue effectively.

The altercation occurred during a crucial stakeholder meeting and eventually led to the arrest of Alhaji Gbewaa, who was later released on bail.
In response to his suspension, his supporters locked up the regional party office in protest.

The NDC’s executives convened a meeting in Accra to urgently address the internal divisions and tensions arising from the incident. As a result, Alhaji Gbewaa has been suspended, marking a necessary step in addressing factionalism within the party, especially between supporters of former President John Mahama and former Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu.

The incident, fueled by a heated dispute over party finances, underscored the urgency of resolving internal disagreements within the NDC.
The suspension of Alhaji Gbewaa for a three-month period reflects the party’s commitment to conducting a fair and thorough investigation.

Deputy General Secretary, Mustapha Gbande, stated that the NDC is dedicated to ensuring a comprehensive examination of the incident and the necessary processes to address the issue properly.
The party seeks to find a resolution while promoting unity and cohesion among its ranks and files.
