The UK and Ireland Chapter of the NDC has learnt with shock the arrest of Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi at the precincts of U-TV this morning 27.01.2020.

Democratic governance and constitutional rule provides guaranted freedoms and rights to individuals and groups in a democratic Space. Citizens must be free to criticise government without intimidation or harassment.

It is however sad that Mr Akufo Addo who is claimed to be a human rights activists has supervised the worst abuse of the democratic rights of Ghanaians particularly leading members of the opposition party.

The violent tendencies of Mr Akufo Addo has not stopped even with his ascension to the presidency of our great country.

Never in the history of Ghana has any president supervised such levels of abuse of citizens rights like the Akufo Addo government.

We demand the immediate release of Comrade Sammy Gyamfi without any delay.

The stinking €70 million JV Tyllium- Eclipse fraudulent deal has been made public and it is obvious the Akufo Addo government is seeking to divert attention from the expose’ by arresting Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi to deflect attention from the thievery and illegal transaction conducted in the name of the state by Ken Ofori Atta, Akufo Addo’s finance minister and cousin.

Eclipse according to the company house in the UK was formed in September 2019 while the loan was approved in April, 5 months clear to the formation of the firm, JV Tyllium-Ellipse. Eclipse is also a defunct company according to the Company house in the UK.

It is not surprising Akufo Addo and his government continue to defraud the state in such an unbelievable manner.

The NDC UK and Ireland wish to state categorically that such a hoax by government cannot in anyway bury the rot, loot and state capture being pursued by the Akufo Addo government.

State resources must be applied prudently and all loans contracted in the name of the state must be pursued with transparency, due deligence and maximum benefit to the people of Ghana.

It is not surprising the government continue to score very low on the corruption perception index given the level of fraud and plain theirvety under the Akufo Addo government.
