NDC ‘unhappy’ with Akufo-Addo’s dishonesty over Mahama projects
The Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Dome-Kwabenya constituency in the Greater Accra Region, in setting the records straight, have raised concerns over how the President, Nana Akufo-Addo’s government is commissioning former President Mahama’s projects without giving him the due recognition.
They claimed the ruling government halted all on-going projects being undertaken by the previous administration when they came to power and turned to criticize them of not doing anything.
Addressing journalists at a press conference organized by the constituency executives, the former Municipal Chief Executive for Ga East, Kwaw Sackey,, explained that the ruling government, upon getting into office, suspended all developmental projects such as roads, schools and hospitals and as well collapsed Banks and this has caused massive unemployment to many Ghanaians.
He claimed that as the 2020 elections draws closer, the Nana Akufo-Addo led-government have begun fixing the same abandoned projects undertaken by the previous government and dishonestly failing to commend or credit the former President on those legacies.
The former MCE added that, the President and his ministers Nicodemously commissioned the 100-bed hospital situated at the Ga East Municipal Assembly at Kwabenya, which, he claimed is one of Mahama’s legacies but never mentioned the former President as the brain behind the such project.
“As usual, the President not wanting to give any credit to the John Mahama administration, stated, that the hospital forms part of the “Ghana hospitals projects” initiated by the government in 2008, executed by Eurogate DE-Invest SA of Egypt. He then went ahead and commended the contractors for completing the project 1-month ahead of schedule,” he said.
But the MCE further outlined a number of projects undertaken by the previous government under his turner as MCE including the construction of Dome, Haatso, Abokobi, Taifa Burkina markets, the E-Blocks, Asphalting of roads in the constituency, provision of furniture to Basic schools, construction of water reservoir at Boi, among others.
Kwaw Sackey debunked claims allegedly being perpetuated by the ruling party that the previous administration collapsed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), rather they enhanced it by enrolling and increasing the number during their turner.
He therefore advised the Special Aids and Communicators to the President to desist from such practices of feeding the President with bias information, adding that, this is always an embarrassment to the President because he is always inaccurate on issues pertaining to national interest.
“We know that very soon, the government would be commissioning another Mahama road project in the constituency. This is the road from Kwabenya mosque through God first, Mr. Adjei, Taifa polyclinic to Atomic roundabout, but we won’t be surprised if they fail again to credit the Mahama-led administration for that project,” he added.
He urged the party folks not to relent in their focus and support but continue to forge ahead and fight to win upcoming 2020 elections. He also called on the party members to vote “No” in the upcoming referendum as the party has stated.
