The overflow of water from the Akosombo Dam has led to the displacement of hundreds of individuals in the Mepe and Battor areas of the North Tongu District in the Volta Region.

Currently, more than 500 households are grappling with the inundation as residents desperately attempt to salvage their belongings.

The floods have already claimed properties valued at thousands of Ghana Cedis, including numerous buildings.

Despite the displacements starting days ago, both local and central government authorities have shown little proactive responses at least that’s what the locals are saying on the ground.

What we also understand is that, relief items are not forthcoming while some affected persons are stranded on a number of islands that are far to be reached. Apart from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) collecting data and distributing very few relief items, affected people say there is need for government to do more.

Meanwhile the President His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo was in the affected areas yesterday to access extent of damage.
