Nepotism claim: Akufo-Addo considered competence of his appointees not their relationship with him – Oduro Osae
Nepotism claim: Akufo-Addo considered competence of his appointees not their relationship with him – Oduro Osae
Governance analyst, Dr. Eric Oduro Osae has suggested that nepotism claims by opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akufo-Addo led Administration is unfounded, ABC News can report.
He observed that every appointment done by the president was done solely on merit and competence contrary to the ‘family and friends’ claim by the NDC.
He averred nepotism is not rife in Ghana’s politics and leaders mostly select people they deem capable to handle a particular sector.
“I have not really seen any case of nepotism in our politics. What I have observed is whoever ascends the throne as president appoints those he believes can help push his cause. I don’t think anybody will appoint an unqualified or incompetent person into his government when he wants to succeed,” he averred.
Dr. Oduro Osae’s comments come on the heel of a presser held by the NDC, Tuesday, to name 51 supposed family members and cronies of President Akufo-Addo, in his government, in an attempt to tag him as nepotistic.
But Dr. Oduro Osae maintained that the President’s appointees are in their positions due to their capabilities just as former President John Mahama appointed persons he deemed capable to serve in his government, stressing that the situation is not as dire as it has been made to appear.
“What I know is that all those who have been given one position or the other in this government contributed in their campaign if you trace back, and because they have something good to offer, they have been given the opportunity to serve.
“In the same vein, the NDC during their incumbency appointed people they deemed competent and so I have not seen any strict nepotism. This government has many ministers and they cut across all the 16 regions of Ghana,” he stated.
