Her Worship Linda Amissah, a Magistrate of the Adenta District Court, has sworn-in a 19-member newly elected and appointed Assembly members and a 60-member Unit Committee of the 4th Assembly into office. The event took place at Kingdom Methodist Church in Adenta, a suburb of Accra.
This is in accordance with Article 35(6)(d) of Ghana’s constitution that enjoins the state to promote popular participation in governance by decentralizing the administrative and financial machinery of the Government to afford the citizens the opportunity to participate in decision making at the national level.
The Municipal Chief Executive of Adenta, Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, advised the members to be loyal, dedicated and apply the basic working principles that would ensure good and responsible leadership throughout their turner in office.
He urged them to see their duties as a dedicated service to the people of Adenta and not to themselves, adding that this would go a long way to help tackle issues affecting residents in their various localities.
“I urged you all to work hard with the people of Adenta and never create an enmity between you and them because they are the main reason you devoted yourselves to serve and to make the community a better place to live. Use the same energy in which you use to win the elections to work together in order to achieve better results in the future,” he advised.
A Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Charles Owiredu, who spoke on behalf of President Akufo-Addo commended the members and urged them to exhibit good leadership skills throughout their service to the citizens in the municipalities.
“I urged you to devise a special client sensitive approaches to mobilize, devoid of challenges to the rates payers. As new Assembly members, I encouraged you to support the Assemblies to raise their IGF” he stated.
Charles Owiredu further instructed the Assembly to make use of the bye-laws as per Section 12 (3) (f) of the local Governance Act, 2016(Act 936) that enforces compliance in the sanitation management and environmental health standards as well as rules that would ensure clean and healthy environment.
The Deputy Minister again emphasized that, good governance entails active participation of the citizens in the affairs of the Assembly to ensure quality services, improve infrastructure and good leadership style.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Adjirigonor electoral area, Joseph Odoi Boye was re-elected as the Presiding Member for the Assembly. He polled 15 votes, representing 78.95 percent out the total 20 votes cast by Assembly Members.
He pledged to mobilize members to work assiduously towards the fulfilment of all agendas set for the municipality that would enhance and propel Adenta forward at the end of their turner in office.
“I will make sure we work in uniformity because ‘together we can build’. This is not my first time to be there and so, I will work with my other members in line with the rules and regulations to ensure we achieve our goals as expected of us,” he added.
