Formerly a number 11 player, the Euros winner’s place will be taken by Alvaro Djalo.
In a turn of events amid Barcelona’s transfer move linked to attacker Nico Williams, La Liga side Athletic Club have handed the 22-year-old Ghanaian-born Spanish player the number 10 jersey, casting uncertainty at the move.
Formerly a number 11 player, the Euros winner’s place will be taken by Alvaro Djalo.
The switch was announced by the club as they deployed their new squad numbers ahead of the start of the 2024/2025 season.
Following his excellent and gratifying output at the Euros, Nico has received bids and interest from various clubs including Barcelona and PSG, with Barca leading the race.
However, this recent move by Athletic Club despite Nico’s absence from preseason is creating uncertainties about the perceived future with Blaugrana though reports had it that he had shown interest in the move.
At the 2024 Euros, the 22-year-old scored two goals in six games plus an assist.
