Nigerian Boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun dies in a fight at Bukom Boxing Arena

Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Olusewagun Olanrewaju (13 -8-2) met his untimely death on Saturday, March 29, 2025, when he was fighting Ghana’s Jon Power Mbanugu in an international (undercard) contest on the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
In the interesting bout, which saw both boxers sizing each other and delivering good jabs, Olusewagun, who is 40 years old, went down all of a sudden when no punch had hit him and fell on the ropes, leading to the canvas.

The ring side doctor and the referee, Richard Amevi, had to rush in to remove the gum shield from his mouth and call for assistance to put him in an ambulance and take him to the Korlebu hospital nearby.

News that reached later said he has passed.
It was very sad, because he was putting up a good show.

Jon Mbanugu (13-1-1), who was declared the winner by a knockout out said he was excited with the win, but sad about the way his opponent went down.
Jon, aka Power, 22, has increased his record to 13 wins, one draw, and one loss.
