NMC introduces an app to monitor events and disinformation on election day

The National Media Commission (NMC), an agency, mandated with the responsibility of registering, regulating and monitoring the activities of media houses in the country has launched an election watch app to help in reporting incidence on election day.

The commission said this important step was taken as part of its commitment to contain any form of hate speech and disinformation that may arise during the election day.

In a press statement signed by the commission’s Executive Secretary, George Sarpong, earlier today, he noted that the commission has “begun a process to expedite consideration of concerns relating to hate speech, disinformation and incitement of aggrieved persons.”

The commission explained that such incidence, when brought to the commission, will be dealt with under the broad constitutional mandate to ensure high Journalistic standard.

According to the commission, the rationale behind the move is to ensure that, matters are dealt with within (48) forty-eight hours upon submission to the commission.

The election watch app is an android version and would only work on android devices.
