The Congress Committee of the People’s National Convention (PNC) has clarified a recent report from the party’s Disciplinary Committee (DC) about the suspension of one of the flagbearer aspirants.

However, a statement issued by the Chairman of Congress, Alhassan Azong, said the report by the DC is yet to reach the National Executive Committee (NEC), the highest decision-making body of the party.

“While the disciplinary committee is a duly constituted body, it is important to note that the National Executive Committee (NEC) has not mandated it to sit on any specific issue or investigate any matter,” the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa South said.

”Therefore, any actions or decisions taken by the disciplinary committee without NEC’s explicit mandate are unauthorized and ultra vires.”

He urged party members to remain calm and focused on the upcoming elections.

He stressed: “No candidate, including Bernard Morna, has been disqualified, and the electoral process will proceed as scheduled.

“We reiterate that the NEC has not received any report or recommendations from the disciplinary committee, and any claims or statements made by the committee are without merit and unconstitutional.”

The Congress to elect not only a flagbearer for the party but also national executives will be held on Saturday, September 7.
