No member of Parliamentarian would leave their constituencies to stay in Accra in the name of doing their work. That is according to the independent presidential candidate in this year’s elections.
Mr Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker said, the current situation where MPs stay in Accra and visit their constituencies once in a while would not be entertained by his government. He stressed that the reverse is rather what would happen.
He explained that MPs are elected by their constituents to represent them and, therefore, must make their presence felt in their constituencies than in Accra.
He said, staying within their constituencies would expose them to the challenges of their constituents quickly which would facilitate their additional responsibility as lobbyists for their constituencies.
To that end, he said, he would ensure that parliament sits quarterly and with well planned sub-committee meetings that would not require parliamentarians to be on Accra very often.

On employment, he indicated that he would convert the state housing corporation and public works department yards that have been abandoned across the country into skills training centers.
According to Mr Asiedu Walker, unemployed youth would be given a year skills training in diverse fields. They would later be employed by the state and sent out as maintenance brigade to ensure that the roads and state buildings across the country, including schools and government offices are in good shape at all times.
The independent candidate believes this policy would help change the bad maintenance culture of the country.
