  • Akufo-Addo’s Arrogance, Ken’s Explosive Rants, Wontumi’s Gold Stunts & NAPO’s Nkrumah Gaffe!

The just turned Opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is grappling with an electoral disaster in its once-unshakable Ashanti stronghold. Instead of another landslide, the party suffered a voter rebellion, and a leaked internal report has now laid bare the culprits behind the mess!

For weeks, party faithful scrambled for excuses—blaming COVID-19, the Ukraine war, voter apathy, and even spiritual forces—but a damning regional investigative report has shut down the spin. The real damage came from within!

The Ashanti Regional Election Review Committee spent eight weeks digging into the collapse, engaging party executives, grassroots members, civil society groups, and swing voters across all 47 constituencies. Their verdict?

NPP bigwigs ignored voters’ suffering
Arrogance and reckless public statements alienated the electorate
Infighting, scandals, and corruption made the party toxic

The report doesn’t hold back, directly blaming President Nana Akufo-Addo, maverick Kennedy Agyapong, running mate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), Ashanti chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), Bono’s loudmouth Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), and the ever-controversial Owusu Bempah, among others.

After weeks of dodging responsibility, the NPP’s own post-mortem has finally spilt the truth: top party figures wrecked the NPP’s credibility, voters felt abandoned and disrespected, and leadership arrogance drove people away from the polls.

Now, The Hawk has obtained excerpts of this explosive report—and it names names!

THE ROGUE’S GALLERY: WHO COST NPP ASHANTI
1. NANA AKUFO-ADDO – THE PRESIDENT WHO TURNED HIS BACK ON ASHANTI!
President Akufo-Addo’s arrogant and dismissive response to voters’ complaints about Kwabre’s terrible roads was a turning point. Instead of addressing the grievances, he arrogantly brushed them off, angering voters who either boycotted the polls or deliberately voted against the NPP.

  1. KENNEDY AGYAPONG – THE PARTY DESTROYER!
Ken Agyapong’s reckless attacks on his own party, calling members “stupid” and “thieves,” deepened divisions and handed the opposition an easy advantage. His public criticism of Dr. Bawumia and his wife further weakened the party and alienated loyalists.
  2. NAPO – THE ARROGANT RUNNING MATE!
Instead of energizing the youth, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) did the opposite—his perceived arrogance alienated voters. His infamous remark downplaying Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy infuriated many Ghanaians, while his aloof attitude turned potential supporters away. Young voters, expected to rally behind him, either stayed home or voted against the NPP!
  3. CHAIRMAN WONTUMI – FROM HERO TO LIABILITY!
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, was once a key force behind the NPP’s dominance in Ashanti. But his lavish lifestyle, public flaunting of gold bars on live TV, and involvement in endless court battles over party disputes gave the impression that the NPP had become a party of selfish elites, more interested in personal wealth than governance.
  4. K.T. HAMMOND – THE LOOSE-TONGUED MP!
K.T. Hammond, once seen as a powerful force in the party, pushed voters away with his sarcastic and dismissive comments. His so-called jokes often came across as insults, and the report indicates that he played a role in driving even loyal supporters away from the polls.
  5. OWUSU BEMPAH, ABRONYE & OBIRI BOAHEN – THE INSULT MASTERS!
According to the report, 6% of voters openly rejected the NPP because of the aggressive, insulting language of these officials, while another 3% simply stayed away in disappointment.
    • Owusu Bempah’s confrontational style,
    • Abronye’s inflammatory rhetoric, and
    • Obiri Boahen’s relentless attacks on opponents made the NPP appear aggressive, intolerant, and disconnected from voters.

The report paints a brutal picture of voters feeling ignored, insulted, and betrayed. The once-loyal Ashanti electorate finally sent a clear message: We are not your political slaves, We won’t tolerate insults and arrogance, and We demand accountability, not empty slogans!

Bawumia’s Image Protected—But at What Cost?
In what appears to be a strategic attempt to shield Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from blame and position him for future elections, the report downplays any impact of his ethnicity or religion on the party’s downfall.

“Over 95% of respondents emphatically stated that the tribe of the Presidential Candidate did not affect the fortunes of the Party in the 2024 general elections,” the report claims.
Yet, it concedes that:
• 5% of respondents blamed the Mamprusi-Kusasi conflict for NPP’s losses, particularly in rural constituencies where Kusasis and their allies voted against Dr Bawumia.
• 98% insisted that having a Muslim flagbearer did not influence the election results.

However, the report conveniently ignores deeper frustrations within the party—internal conflicts, poor leadership, and corruption—which many believe were key factors in Bawumia’s rejection at the polls.

Northern Voters Backed Mahama Over ‘Seniority’
In an unexpected twist, the report reveals that Dr. Bawumia’s own Northern base rejected him—not because of tribal bias, but due to traditional values.
“The majority of respondents from the Northern background were of the view that, traditionally, seniority should always be prioritized. As a result, they voted for Mr. Mahama since they considered him to be older than Dr. Bawumia. Again, they saw Mahama as having only one final chance,” the report states.

Reality Check: Can NPP Survive 2028?
While the report tries to shift focus away from Bawumia’s campaign struggles, it fails to address the deep voter resentment over corruption, economic hardship, and internal party fractures.

With Ashanti voters feeling abandoned and party heavyweights like Akufo-Addo, Wontumi, Kennedy Agyapong, and NAPO all under fire, the NPP now faces a monumental task in rebuilding its credibility before 2028.
