The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lambasted former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Party (NDC) on issues regarding competent management of Ghana’s economy, infrastructural development and of the country, among others.
The NPP party claimed the previous administration incompetently managed the economy during their tenure of office and so has no right to criticize the current administration on same.
Responding to the recent NDC’s public lecture on Ghana’s economy, the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, described the lecture as shambolic, concert, lies and unfortunate because according to him “it does not reflect the real state of the economy” as the NDC was trying to portray.
He described the NDC as a party with a discredited record, disrespectful and disgraceful with nothing good to offer the citizens of Ghana because their four year term in office rather brought hardship to the citizens. He challenged the NDC to show any major infrastructure project they constructed during their first 2-year years in office.
“The Mahama-led administration are people who unleashed violence and hardship on the citizens throughout their governance and for this reason, they are unable to match the NPP in just 2 years in power,” he added
John Boadu accused the Mahama administration and the NDC of stealing state resources, inflating project costs and a track record of creating a monumental mess of the economy for the NPP to come and clean up the mess. He recalled the nineteen years of the NDC rule which admittedly led the country to join the Highly Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) programme to enable its debts to be scrapped.
“The NDC party has had the largest opportunity to transform this country but they rather ended up taking the nation back to IMF and worst of all, they are arrogantly disrespectful for the electoral wishes of the people of this country,” he indicated.
The General Secretary outlined various social interventions programmes that the Akufo-Addo-led administration is undertaking including infrastructural development throughout the country within the two years of governance and,
“We the NPP are happy for the public to judge us with higher credibility benchmark.”
He mentioned the recent reduction of duties on imported vehicles and other items, increment of Capitation grant from GHc 4.50 to GHc 1.00, introduction of teachers and nurses allowances, research allowances, reduction of electricity bill, free SHS, scrapping of some taxes among others as some of the achievements of the NPP government within just two years.
