NPP Hacked EC’s IT System to Win Election 2020 – Kofi Akpaloo

Founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Mr. Kofi Akpaloo says he is in support of the electoral commission’s decision to compile a new voter register because he is strongly convinced that the current voter register is not credible.

Speaking on Home Base TV’s morning show Ebuboba, Mr. Kofi Akpaloo gave a number of reasons for his position on the current voter register.

Mr. Kofi Akpaloo said he has evidence that some people were hired from Israel to hack the I.T. system of the Electoral Commission and because of that, the elections were held on two consecutive days, 7th and 8th December 2016.

According to him, the hackers blocked the transmission of election results from all the strongholds of the ruling government (NDC) with the main aim of delaying the transmission of results from those areas in order to have a clearer idea about the votes the NPP had gotten so that they can manipulate the elections on the next day.

He said the NPP won the 2016 elections because they hacked the Electoral Commission’s I.T. system and not because the register was credible, that is why they are pushing for a new voter register.

He also recalled that the then chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei accused Amadu Suley of undertaking illegal transfers in the current register.

He added that in his opinion, the current register will not absorb Ghanaians living abroad and that will affect the implementation of the ROPAL law which is intended to allow Ghanaians abroad to participate in the 2020 elections.

Again, Mr. Kofi Apkaloo said he believes that the current register contains names of people who may have been dead and that there was the need to take such people off the register.

He also made mention of the NPP and Bawumia’s allegations about the current register prior to the 2016 elections. Adding that the ruling New Patriotic Party had issues with people who used the National Health Insurance cards to register and that resulted in the court ordering the E.C to remove such names. Though the E.C had said that they deleted all those names, he was not convinced that it was so.

In response to the issue of cost, he said it is better to invest into peace than any other thing as far as good governance is concerned. To him, spending money on a new voter register is an investment in peace and security because it will strengthen the people’s confidence in the voter register and for that matter the electoral process.
