Mining Expert, Nana Biribireba Boateng, has said that parts of the manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) delivered by flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia indicted the government of President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking on M’abato3 on Akoma 87.9fm in Kumasi with William Evans-Nkum, Nana Boateng said “Parts of the statement or address was an indictment on the government of which he is part, in a manner that raises serious questions and vindicates those of us who have been critics of the government.”

Contributing to the programme on the proposal for mining in the NPP Manifesto, Mr Boateng said the government has failed in the fight against galamsey.

He indicated that the government has taken Ghanaians for a ride when it comes to issues of national policy, climate change being one of those.

Nana Biribireba Boateng, again criticised the government’s fight against illegal mining and said it is only good at saying one thing and doing the opposite, especially when the public is not watching.

“The galamsey fight has been a very disappointing one and the government has failed Ghanaians.

“Promises and commitments made by the government must be backed with actions. The government can sometimes make beautiful commitments to afforestation, and beautiful commitments to the protection of the environment, and yet at the blind side of all the people of Ghana, do otherwise.

He was doubtful about the establishment of a mining bank. He asked “who are the beneficiaries.? Is it for galamsey operators, small scale miners, community mining scheme members or large-scale miners.”
