As at the close of nomination, 79 party faithfuls had filled to contest 27 parliamentary seats currently being occupied by the New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region with Nkawkaw Constituency alone recording as many as six candidates.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuor, is expected to battle with four other gentlemen and a lady including Okerchire Kwabena Adusa, former MP, Seth Adjei Baah, Board Chair of MASLOC, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Publishers Authority, David Asante Boateng. The rest are the current Constituency Organiser Joseph Frimpong, and the only lady Joyce Opoku Boateng who is currently the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Middle Belt Development Authority.
The Parliamentary primaries scheduled for April 25 will see five candidates going unopposed as members of Parliament for those Constituencies were the only candidates who picked and filled their forms as at the close of business Thursday February 20. This Constituencies include Abetifi, Okere, Upper Manya Krobo, Ofoase Ayirebi and Asene-Manso-Akroso.
This was revealed in an interview with the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NPP Jeff Konadu Addo.
He noted that his office as at last Monday has received all completed forms from the 27 Constituencies with NPP seating Members of Parliament in the Eastern region, explaining that he is yet to forward the forms to the office of the general Secretary of the great Krukudies.
Offering Educating on the process ahead of the April 25 primaries, he stated that the party has completed the first and second phase of the process awaiting vetting and then appeal if any of the candidates for one reason or the other was disqualified after the vetting and wish to go for appeal.
Mr Jeff Konadu expressed his profound gratitude to the Constituency elections committees for their effort to see peace prevail in the region.
“The Constituency elections committee deserve some recommendations, the work with diligence, they respected the party structures and deliver their duty strictly by the guidelines of the party”.
He advised delegates to allow for fair playing as candidates solicit for votes. He also cancelled the aspirants to desist from any campaign strategy that could cause apathy in the party after the April 25 primaries.
