It was all joy and ecstasy when the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, who also doubles as Deputy for Finance Abena Osei Asare went for her nomination forms for the Parliamentary Primaries for the Atiwa East New Patriotic Party (NPP) last week.

Amidst drumming, singing and dancing, friends for Abena Osei Asare (FAOA) picked the forms on behalf of the MP, before finally handing it over to her at the Constituency Party Office at Anyinam.

Presenting the MP with the forms, which was picked by Party Secretary Philip Anokye, Party Chairman, Albert Antwi Boasiako, pointed out that the performance of the MP and her government was just outstanding, encouraging and unprecedented. It was against this background that they chose to give her yet another chance to run with the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the next four (4) years.

The Chairman pointed out that it was not because she was a woman and an MP that they chose to give her another term, but it was because of her good deeds and works that talked for her, stressing that “He who climbs well deserves a push”

Good Works

Hon. Abena Osei Asare, who also doubles as a Deputy Minister for Finance since she became MP for the area, has done so much to uplift the constituency. Her works borders on education, employment, health, water and sanitation, infrastructure, sports, electrification, extension of network and many more.

Ever since she became MP, Abena, as she is affectionately, called has been able to put up school buildings raging from K.G to S.H.S throughout the constituency. There constructions include both replaced and new ones. Also before the Free S.H.S came into being, Hon. Abena Osei Asare used to spend GH¢200,000 on scholarship for Senior Secondary School students each year. But even with the Free S.H.S, she spends GH¢60,000 on tertiary students every year. These school buildings included offices for teachers as well as their toilets (W/C) facilities and those for the children also.

Hon. Osei Asare has also been able to get permanent employment for at least 400 people with the breakdown as follows; 38 to immigration, 32 to police service, 16 to Local government, COCOBOD 2, SSNIT 2, Fire Service 93, Custom 24, just to mention a few.

Health

On Heath, besides well-equipped chips compounds, the MP has been able to put up hospitals and clinics throughout the constituency, with the 20-bed facility at Anyinam Government Hospital and the New Jejeti Clinic coming handy. Last year, on her birthday, she supplied the Enyinam Government Hospital with a modern incubator.

Extension of Electricity – she has to her credit over 90% extension of electricity in her constituency, as only two (2) communities are the only ones left. But even then theirs is in the pipeline.

Extension of Net Work, Tele Communication

Here, almost all the communities have been covered through her personal efforts. As such, network response is very high in the Atiwa East constituency.

Water and Sanitation

A number of communities in the constituency have been supplied with boreholes thus lessening the issue of water shortage in the area. On sanitation, a number of the communities have been supplied with toilet facilities, with the recently commissioned ones 10-seater W/C toilets at Ayigbe town, at Anyinam, Adasewase and New Jejeti, with three others near completion.

Infrastructure

A number of spoilt bridges have been replaced in most communities. Also, a number of culverts have also been constructed.

According to the MP, with the assurance form her colleague minister for roads, Hon. Akwasi Amoako Atta, most roads in the constituency are awaiting rehabilitation and tiring. These include Amosease-Asunafo, Enyiresi-Nanapa, Anyinam-Adasewase Falls and many more.

Ratings

It will be recalled that last year the University of Ghana (Legon) Political Science Department came out with a controversial rating of MPs that stunned MPs thus attracting their wrath. But even in the face of this, Abena came forth (4th) out of the 275 constituencies throughout the country. Also she was placed second (2nd) best in Eastern Region.

According to Party officials, with these developments, they cannot throw away the performing MP for unknown ones. Abena, in her usual humble behavior thanked God and her constituents for these feats. She indicated that without them, especially party officials, she could not have come that far. She subsequently appealed to them (constituents) to go ahead and rally behind her for more success stories in the upcoming term from 2020.
