NPP Parl. Primaries: Rough Tactics Rolled out against CEOs and Appointees likely to Contest
Ghanaians, especially political observers, will in the coming days witness a real grubby game within the corridors of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as serious machinations have been planned for Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of some state agencies who are lacing their boots to contest at the primaries to become Parliamentary candidates.
Serious mud would be pelted against the CEOs and the agenda was hatched from no other place than Parliament.
Some of the incumbent NPP Members of Parliament have become so unpopular that, unless some serious communist tactics are engineered against people challenging them, they (the MPs) would be disgraced at the primaries.
The whole game was activated after moves made by the unpopular, underperforming MPs to convince the party and the Presidency to protect all incumbent MPs.
Several attempts were made by the leadership of the Majority Caucus in Parliament to make the party buy into the idea of protecting incumbent MPs, but the party would not buy into the idea.
The Inquisitor is reliably informed that a certain list of MPs was sent to the Presidency for powerful figures to prevail on those with intentions to challenge those MPs to be convinced to step down, but that one too would not work.
What has been done is that hirelings have been engaged from institutions where the CEOs are steering affairs to float confidential documents and look out for faults on them.
Some of the targeted CEOs are Mr. Stephen Amoah of Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC); Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi of Ghana Free Zones Board and Mr. John Kumah of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme.
Some persons at the Presidency who are interested in challenging some incumbent MPs have not been spared of the grubby agenda either.
There are indications that some respected ministers and government persons have vowed to spend huge sums of money to ensure that the ambitions of the young men are truncated.
The MASLOC boss, for instance, has been accused of not granting loans to NPP persons and that he was arrogant towards party people.
Within his constituency, which is Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, he was accused of sabotaging the MP for the area when he (Mr. Amoah) offered to make some roads in the area motorable.
Mr. Kumah, who is interested in the Ejisu-Juaben seat, is suffering from attacks under the plan, as he is said not to be an indigene of the area, something that has turned out to be false.
Just like Mr. Amoah, Mr. Kumah is accused of sabotaging the MP for the area, anytime he offers a helping hand, with some known NPP persons questioning his source of money for those charitable activities.
Mr. Baafi has also been the target of the rough game since last year.
So nasty was the situation that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service had to step in when the spouse of Mr. Baafi was threatened to force her to convince the husband not to contest at the primaries.
Mr. Baafi is interested in contesting for the New Juaben South seat.
Apart from the call to Mr. Baafi’s wife, there have been well-rehearsed media attacks on his personality with some false stories against him.
Mr. Francis Asenso Boakye, Deputy Chief of Staff, is also going through turbulent times because of his interest in contesting for the Bantama seat in Kumasi.
Last year, The Inquisitor exposed an agenda that the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Mr. Daniel Okyem Aboagye, wanted to pursue with a popular NPP person in the area, Mr. Kwabena Nyame.
Although the MP denied any such plan, Mr. Nyame insisted he met with the MP in Accra and the subject for discussion was how to run the Deputy Chief of Staff down.
Mr. Boakye, popularly called ‘Bantama Asenso Boakye,’ has also been helping the constituency with some gestures, and that one too was been misconstrued as undermining the MP for the area.
