election2024

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Fanteakwa North constituency in the Eastern Region, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah, has become the topic for discussion on social media following the release of his new posters in-which he appears to be begging for the mandate of the people to represent them in Parliament for another “four Terms”.

His constituents have flooded social media with mixed reactions and varied comments in confusion as to what exactly their MP is seeking to communicate.

A poster on his Facebook page campaigning for his reelection appears to be urging the people of Fanteakwa North to grant him another “four Terms”. It states “#My People Give Me 4 More Term”. This has raised heated arguments all over social media with scores of Facebook pundits from the area calling for clarification as to whether he is asking for 16 more years to serve his Constituents. Others have concluded that it was just a grammatical error.

Still, others are questioning why the MP would choose to campaign on social media platforms for votes when he had actually stopped campaigning in the constituency following the disqualification of his main contenders Sakyimah Yakubu Moro and Freeman Ofori Agyarko.

It was gathered that Sakyimah Yakubu Moro – a well known member of the party in the Constituency was allegedly disqualified on the basis of his refusal to accept responsibility to serve the party as a patron in the Constituency, while Freeman Ofori Agyarko was disqualified due to the fact that he was not able to provide a certificate to support his claims on the nomination forms he submitted. He claimed he was still awaiting the certificate from the institution.

Even though both disqualified candidates are awaiting the verdict of their appeal, Amankwa Asiamah sees himself as an unopposed NPP parliamentary candidate for the 2020 general elections and has stopped aggressive campaigning because the area is a perceived NPP stronghold.

This move has attracted questions with most people asking whether Amankwa Asiamah (nicknamed Fanteakwa Mugabe) by sections of the Constituents is really begging for 16 more years to be in Parliament when he has already served 12 years without any tangible development projects to show to show in the Constituency.
