Oscar Komla Bedzra, an outspoken Constituency Executive Member of the NDC in the Ho Central Constituency, has likened the ruling NPP’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections to the unpredictability of the popular sports betting game “Aviator.”

In an interview with Takoradi-based KYZZ FM on Friday, December 27, Bedzra described the NPP’s loss as a shocking turn of events that caught the ruling party off guard. “The NPP went into the December 7 elections with high hopes, relying on various rigging mechanisms, only to be taken by surprise, just like the way ‘Aviator’ surprises players,” he mocked.

Bedzra further noted that the unexpected defeat should serve as a wake-up call for the NPP. “This election is a huge lesson for everyone, including us in the NDC. If the NPP cannot learn from this disastrous, ‘Aviator-style’ defeat, then I don’t know when they ever will,” he added.

Confidence in Mahama’s Leadership

When asked about the prospects of the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, Bedzra expressed confidence in his ability to restore Ghana’s economic fortunes. “I am very optimistic that President John Dramani Mahama will use his experience as a past leader to reset Ghana on the path of economic recovery. That is exactly why Ghanaians massively voted for him, judging from his previous leadership record,” he stated.

Call for Electoral Neutrality

Bedzra also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to act impartially in addressing disputes over nine parliamentary seats currently in contention. He stressed that neutrality in resolving these issues is essential for the EC to regain public trust.

While encouraging calm among NDC supporters nationwide, Bedzra reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring that the electoral process remains credible and fair.

The NPP’s loss has sparked widespread discussion, with analysts and political figures reflecting on the factors that led to the ruling party’s unexpected defeat and the implications for Ghana’s political landscape.
