Volta MPs want President Akufo-Addo to retract his insulting words and apologize to Aflao Chief

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Volta Region have called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to apologize to the Chief of Aflao over the former’s retorts statement during his recent media interview.

At a news conference in parliament on Thursday October 28, 2021, the MP for the Ketu South constituency, Dzifa Abla Gomshie called for “retraction and apology from the President”.

According to her, “the President’s conduct which we do not see him exhibit against chiefs from other parts of the country is a total affront to the entire Volta Region and the Aflao Traditional Area in particular”.

She noted that, “a united Ghana with a common destiny is undermined by such reckless and discriminatory conduct of the president”.

The MP maintained that, their revered chiefs and custodians of their proud traditions “deserve utmost respect at all times regardless of which part of the country they exercise their authority and what they wear or which region they come from”.

“The respected traditional ruler merely advocated for an abandoned E-block in his community to be completed so his people will have fair access to education”.

The MP added that, the Chief deserve better “as a citizen and bonafide taxpayer that wasn’t too much to ask.

“Togbui Adzongaga Amenya Fiti V, of the Aflao traditional area deserves praise for prioritizing education and speaking out against the culture of abandoning inherited projects”.

“He does not deserve such disrespect from the President of the Republic,” she said.

The MP promised to launch a GoFundMe account for donations to finish the E-block as instructed by “the President’s infamous retort and I entreat all Aflaoviwo and well-meaning Ghanaians to donate generously”.
