The independent presidential candidate in the 2020 elections, Kwame Asiedu Walker said he would restructure the planting for food and jobs policy introduced by the NPP government in 2016.
According to him, the policy has not met its desired purpose and, therefore, needs a relook.
Speaking to Nana Amakyi on Classic FM during his campaign tour in Techiman, he emphasized that, the foundation of every country’s economy is agriculture. He said, his government would pay particular attention to the agriculture sector by restructuring the planting for food and jobs policy, and come up with strategic plans to improve the sector to change the living conditions of farmers in rural communities especially.
He added that, most of the farmers in the rural communities cannot buy tractors for their work because they do not have the money. He stressed that, the use of hoes and cutlasses for farming cannot make farmers rich, and further stressed on the need for machines and modern tools to increase productivity.
Mr Kwame Asiedu Walker who is himself a farmer said, his government would build agric mechanisation centers with agric officers and engineers to be stationed at each office in every Region so farmers could go to them for information on how to improve their work.

The Agric officers would also be responsible for the testing the soil to determine the suitable crops for a particular land. The government again would provide seedlings for planting when Agric engineers identify crops on demand on the international market.
This, he believes, would help minimize importation and increase foreign exchange for the country through export.
Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY), running mate for Kwame Asiedu Walker added that, government would guarantee bank loans for farmers to build their own houses.
