A male nursing trainee, identified only as David, and seven other Ghanaian tomato traders have died in Burkina Faso’s town of Nobere after a truck on which they were traveling got involved in a fatal accident Wednesday morning.
The accident claimed the life of the trainee nurse and the other victims after one of the front tire of their vehicle burst as they negotiated a curve in the town, sources told our Upper East Regional Correspondent Senyalah Castro.
The truck, which was fully loaded with crates of tomatoes, was making a return journey from Burkina Faso, where Ghanaian traders mostly go to buy the commodity when the accident happened.
The vehicle somersaulted several times in the process leading to the death of six of the occupants on the spot.
Two of the injured later died on the way as they were being transported to the hospital, bringing the total death toll to eight—six women and two men.
Other occupants of the vehicle, numbering about six, sustained various degrees of injuries and have since been admitted at the Paga district health center and the War Memorial Hospital in Navrongo for medical attention.
Interment for the deceased nursing trainee, it is gathered, has been done by the family and the rest of the dead bodies sent to the hospital’s morgue for preservation.
