The Traditional Council of Eastern Nzema has rejected gifts presented to them by the Ghana National Gas Company Limited.
The gifts was supposedly meant to support the traditional council in their end of year meeting.
The items which were presented by some representatives of the company included 10 crates of canned drinks,10 boxes of bottled water,4 castle bridge, and a cash amount of 2,000 Ghana cedis.
But this gesture provoked the council as, they say, it was meager, and an insult to the chiefs and the people of Nzemaland.

A member of the standing committee of the council, who is also the Chief of Nzema Akropong, Nana Adu Kwaw II reckoned that Ghana Gas has for years disrespected the council with their ‘tokens’, especially when they know of the huge contributions they make to other traditional councils outside their operation areas.
He accused the company of being overly exploitative of the people, as he alleged that Ghana Gas two years ago, made a whopping GHC1 million donation to the Okyehene during his festival celebration.
“We read from the newspapers and from various news platforms that they gave the Okyehene one billion (old cedis) two years ago to celebrate his festival. Why can’t they do the same for us? We don’t deserve this,” he lamented.
According to him, the Nzemaland and the traditional council deserve some respect as they are host to their installations. Nana Adu Kwaw II laments the number of unemployed graduates in the communities is on the rise, citing that the local oil and gas companies have failed to provide job opportunities for them.
Adding his voice to the issue, Chief of Basale, Nana Bonsu Kofi said his request to get some local graduates to secure placement in the company for a one-year national service was turned down by Management.
“This year alone, I tried to help some graduates from my community to get a vacancy for National Service but I was not listened to,” he said.
He thus dared Ghana Gas to produce the list of National Service personnel who are natives of the Nzemaland, as well as records of Nzemas working in the company.
They have subsequently, issued a four-week ultimatum for Management of Ghana Gas to respond favourably to the issues raised lest they would lead the youth of the area to demonstrate against the company.
