Obuasi mechanics relocate for new 1000-seater recreational center
“We have an agreement in place with the leadership of Garages to relocate them with a month-long relocation plan in place. Electricity, toilet facility, and water have been provided,”
Engagements with the leadership of the Garages Association in Obuasi regarding their relocation to a permanent site have concluded successfully, according to Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
Addressing the media after a town hall meeting, he shared insights into the readiness of the Artisan site and outlined the relocation plans.
“We have an agreement in place with the leadership of Garages to relocate them with a month-long relocation plan in place. Electricity, toilet facility, and water have been provided,” stated Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah.
He further assured that the demarcations had been done, and the road linking the site would be graded to facilitate easier movement of vehicles. The Artisan site, located in New Biakoyeden, is expected to become a business hub fostering growth, collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the automotive industry.
The Chief Executive also unveiled plans for the construction of an 800-1000 seater Capacity Auditorium recreational centre, known as the Obuasi Urban Park, after the garages’ relocation. This centre aims to serve as a vibrant hub for various activities, catering to youth, families, and civic organizations in Obuasi and its environs.
Welcoming the directive on the collection of property rates, Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah saw it as a positive move. He emphasized the potential for increased revenue for Municipal Assemblies, urging his colleagues to leverage this opportunity.
In response to the 2024 budget presentation, he clarified that the fees payable to the assembly in 2023 would remain consistent in 2024.
“The Assemblies are better placed to collect property rates,” he encouraged.
Madam Edna Vivian Arkoh, the Municipal Budget analyst, clarified in an earlier presentation that fees payable to the assembly in 2023 would remain consistent in 2024 without any increments.
She appealed to residents to pay their levies promptly, emphasizing that Internally Generated Fund sources finance most of the assembly’s projects.
Providing updates on project implementation, Municipal Works Engineer David Adjei highlighted completed projects, including a concrete footbridge in Abompe, a 2-storey classroom block at the Methodist school in Antobuasi, and a two-storey health centre at New Nsuta, among others.
