#OccupyBoG protestors vow to defy police and march to Central Bank’s premises to present their petition
The protest leaders, however, insist they will march to the Bank of Ghana against the orders of the police to present their petition.
All appears set for today’s #OccupyBoG protest against the continued stay of office of the BoG governor, Dr. Ernest Addison and his two deputies.
The protest being organised by the Minority in Parliament, the NDC party and allied groups follows the Central Bank’s loss of GH¢60.81 billion in the 2022 fiscal year and the allocation of over $250 million for the construction of a new headquarters at North Ridge.
Earlier, the street action was postponed on two occasions after the leadership of the protestors and the Ghana Police Service failed to agree on routes.
But after a series of back and forths, they finally agreed to provide security and clearance to the protest on the condition, that they would not converge at the central bank’s premises which has been classified as a security zone.
The protest leaders, however, insist they will march to the Bank of Ghana against the orders of the police to present their petition.
Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson told Accra-based Joy News, that he expects that the police will permit the Minority leadership and Members of Parliament to march to the central bank and present their petition to Governor Addison.
“Our position is that since they are claiming that that is the beginning of the security zone, the protesters may end there. But the leadership of parliament must be allowed into the central bank to present our petition.”
