Okonjo-Iweala begins her journey as WTO Director-General today
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, today, March 1, 2021, begun her duty as the newly appointed Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
The WTO on its official twitter page welcomed Mrs Okonjo-Iweala on her first day as the Director-General of the organization.
Welcome to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her first day as WTO Director-General! She makes history as the first woman and first African to take up this post,” read the WTO’s post on twitter.
On her first day at the trade body, Mrs Okonjo-Iweala told media men present that there is a lot of work to be done and that she is ready to start working.
“Coming into one of the most important institutions in the world and we have a lot of work to do. I feel ready to go,” Mrs Okonjo-Iweala is reported to have said.
