Otabil’s ICGC Church looses court case over prayers and clapping, fined GHc 30,000

A branch of Pastor Mensah Otabil’s International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and Cross Road Community Church at Haatso in the Greater Accra Region have been asked by an Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Novisa Afua Aryene (MRS) to pay an amount of GHc 30,000 each to plaintiffs Mrs. Patricia Bannerman and Dr. Elizabeth Masopeh for nuisance.

VERDICT: COURT AWARDS DAMAGES AND COST AGAINST ICGC, HAATSO BRANCH ACCRA AND CROSS ROAD COMMUNITY MINISTRIES FOR NUISANCE.

An Accra High Court, Presided over by Her Ladyship Justice Novisi Afua Aryene (MRS) has awarded damages and cost against International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and Cross Road Community Church Ministries all in Haatso for nuisance. The learned judge ordered each church to pay damages of GHc 20,000 and cost of GHc 10,000 to the plaintiffs. The court further ordered the Municipal Chief Executive of Abokobi to pay damages of GHc 20,000 to the plaintiffs for the quite of enjoyment of their properties.

The orders were made after the court found that, the activities of the two churches including loud singing, clapping and drumming accompanied by electronic musical instruments and loud prayers both day and night especially from Friday to Sundays and the littering of neighborhood by congregants as well as blocking the plaintiffs house with their cars amounted to nuisance.
