Otumfuo withdraws Manhyia reps from KMA, other assemblies

The Asantehene Otumfuo II has withdrawn Manhyia representative from Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and other assemblies in the Ashanti region.

According to Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, the traditional council feels eliminated in local governance representation in the various assemblies.

He revealed that the assembly formerly had 5 representation in the Kumasi Metropolitan Asembly among others.

However, the number has been reduced to 1 by the central government.

The traditional council believes they are no more relevant in the local government hence a decision by Otumfuo to redraw all traditional representation in the various assembly’s.

Bantamahene who is representing the Asantehene at the inauguration and swearing-in of the of 8th Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly stressed that a formal letter has been sent to the Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Osei Assibey Antwi explains that the reduction of the Traditional council representation is as a result of the creation of new districts in the Metropolis.
