The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has attributed the recent power outages in the country to a challenge they are having with some of their distribution transformers.

According to the ECG, about six hundred and thirty of some transformers within certain communities are full to capacity as a result of increased demand.

A statement issued by the ECG on Monday, March 11, 2024, indicated that the situation usually leads to blown fuses and broken conductors, which result in power disruptions.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that so far, six hundred and thirty (630) distribution transformers within communities across our operational areas have been identified to be full to capacity due to increased demand.

“This situation may result in blown fuses and broken conductors causing outages, especially during the peak load period (7 pm – 11 pm) in the affected areas,” part of the statement read.

As a result, the ECG has said it is embarking on the installation of transformers within their operational areas to mitigate the problem, urging customers for their cooperation as they work to improve constant power supply.
