Over 800 Applicants Challenged in Ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise in Ketu South

Some were challenged for not being Ghanaian citizens or being below the voting age of 18 years.

More than eight hundred applicants in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region, have suffered a setback, after they were challenged by other eligible voters for various breaches of the registration process.

This is according to the chairman of a newly constituted District Registration Review Committee (DRRC), Torgbui Nyuiemedzi Anubo II,

The Aflao Circuit Court Judge, His Honour Joseph Behome inaugurated a nine member District Registration Review Committee (DRRC) to monitor the ongoing Limited Voter Registration exercise in Ketu South.

The Committee which has powers of a District Court will have it’s first sitting on Tuesday May 21, 2024 with a task of attending to more than eight hundred and fifty challenged applicants.

Chairman of the Committee Torgbui Nyuiemedzi Anubo II said, the committee has barely two weeks to the challenged cases.

Most of the applicants were challenged for not being residents or ordinary residents of the electoral area where they wish to be vote.

Some were challenged for not being Ghanaian citizens or being below the voting age of 18 years.

The highest challenge of the applicants came from agents of the New Patriotic Party with less than twenty challenges by the National Democratic Congress which included the Communications Director of the NPP Mr Richard Ahiagba for his ineligibility to vote in the Ketu South constituency.

The chairman of the Committee who was representing the traditional Authorities in the Ketu South Municipality in an interview with Aflao based Holy Fm, noted they have only two weeks to review this huge number of challenged applicants.

“So to make things easy and faster, I encourage those who have been challenged to bring evidence of why their names should be included in the Voter Register and those who called for the challenge, should also bring their evidences based on which they challenged somebody’s inclusion in the register ”

Other members of the review committee include the representative of the Ghana Education Service, Mr John Etsey,
National Democratic Congress, Hon Mickson Akpavor, New Patriotic Party Mr Michael Equagoo, Progressive People Party, Dumega Daniel Vedzesu, Ghana Union Movement, Mr Promise Tetteh, Ghana Police Service,
