A/R: Parents urged not to neglect the disabled among their children

The  Chief Executive Officer (CEO), for Mercy Mission for Disabled Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Madam Comfort Sey, has appealed to Parents and Guardian’s not to neglect their children with Disabilities but show love and affection to them.

Madam Comfort Sey, who is also a disabled made these passionate appeal whiles speaking yesterday in an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, after donating some assaulted material to  persons living with disability in Agogo in the Asante Akim North District in the Ashanti Region

She noted that some parents discriminate among their children by loving the abled than the disabled with the believes that the disabled has nothing good to offer them. Madam Sey advised parents to desist from such mentality as no one knows what the future holds for a person.

Madam Comfort Sey, who is now become an Evangelist hinted, that, her the mission to empower the disabled started some 24 years ago, and in 2012, collaborated with an Australian physiotherapist, Jacinta Warren in conducting a survey on children with disabilities and problems relating to physically challenged children in some selected communities in Asante Akim Central. According to her, their findings revealed that children born with congenital defects were kept indoors, most of these children were also left to their fate as they lack appropriate treatment, in terms of medical care, proper nutrition and education. She added that, in most cases, fathers ignore these e children and their mothers, which she described as a bad attitude on the part of the men.

The NGO whose mission is to ensure the quality of life for persons with disability through the recognition of each person inherent dignity and right to a life filled with love and care has over the years been recognized by the government of Ghana for its great efforts to better the living standard of the vulnerable in society.

In order to meet the mission of the Mercy Mission for the Disabled, the CEO announced that the mission intends to in the coming year send some of these children to the Orthopedic centre for treatment. The mission also engages in health-related programs by sensitizing communities in the prevention of diseases such as HIV aids, Malaria, TB in Asante Akim Central and North through trained volunteers. This is done by a global fund through the Ghana Health Service.

Madam Comfort Sey, however, made a passionate appeal to the Nans Akufo-Addo and all well-meaning Ghanaians to assist Mercy Mission with all they can to help bush these mission.

Madam Sey further pleads with the Akuffo Addo Administration to help support women with physically challenged children financially.  S “There is the need to set up more special schools in every District for the benefit of children with special needs”, she added.

She concluded by sounding a word of caution to Politicians, adding that,  in the event of a war, we all stand to lose, since there will be no victor or vanquished. “Politicians must love mother Ghana and put all selfish interest aside”, she added.
