According to the MP, the absence of a hospital in the district is negatively impacting the lives of the residents as they find it difficult to access quality healthcare in the area. He said pregnant women have to travel long distances to neighboring Sissala East, Navrongo, or Wa, and to the Upper West Regional capital to access healthcare.
Minister for Health, Kweku Agyeman-Manu, in his response to the question repeated President Akufo-Addo’s promise that the Sissala West District has been listed in the District hospitals promised by this administration its Agenda 111.
He explained that some preliminary issues have to be resolved before the construction could be commenced.
He mentioned some of the outstanding issues to include land acquisition, architectural and engineering designs, specifications, procurement of contractors, award of contracts and site selection resolution petitions from some communities on a possible relocation, among others.
“As of now, site selection for 101 sites has been completed and they will soon be handed to the contractor,” the Minister stated.
He assured that work on Agenda 111 will commence by the end of July 2021 and that the Sissala West District project will also commence as soon as the challenges are resolved.
