Parliaments in Africa must promote Democracy and foster Economic Development – Prez Maada Bio

The 52nd Regional conference and annual general meeting which is on the theme "The Role of African Parliaments in Building inclusive society to counter growing insecurity in Africa" is expected to strengthen parliamentary democracy in Africa.

President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio has emphasized the need for Parliaments across the African sub-region to promote democracy and foster economic development.

Delivering an address at the opening ceremony of the CPA Africa Regional Conference in Freetown, Sierra Leone, Maada Bio urged African governments to take advantage of regional legislative Instruments to work towards a common passport, market and a single custom and monetary union.

President Maada Bio called on African leaders to put in place appropriate measures for the betterment of all CPA members.

The Acting CPA international chairperson, Ian Liddel-Grainger, reiterated the CPAs commitment to continue pushing for a change in the legal status of the association.

The speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is expected to address the delegation on Tuesday on the topic the “Role of African Parliaments in accelerating intra-African trade.”
