Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Samuel Boakye-Appiah and the Chief Executive Officer of Power Distribution Services (PDS), Rev. Ing. William Hutton-Mensah, have in a joint press release on August 8, 2019, greed on interim operation modalities.
The statement explained that, the arrangement is to “ensure there is no disruption of power supply and service delivery to customers”.
However, as interim arrangement, PDS will continue to provide all activities related to electricity retail sales, billing, revenue collection, meter reading among others, on behalf of ECG.
“This interim arrangement shall be in force from August 8, 2019 until the reversal or otherwise by the Energy Commission,” the statement noted.
The Energy Commission on July 31, 2019 appointed the Electricity Company of Ghana as interim operator to take charge of management and operation of electricity sales under licence number EC/ESL/02-19-001 issued to Power Distribution Services Ghana Limited.
This follows Governments suspension of concession agreement with PDS announced by Information Minister Hon. Kojo Opong Nkrumah after detecting fundamental and material breaches of PDS’ obligation in the provision of payment securities (Demand Guarantees) for the transaction which have been discovered, upon further due diligence which were key prerequisites for the lease of the assets.
