Iddrisu Musah Superior, the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has announced that his outfit would award persons and corporate bodies who have contributed to the development of the region and the entire country.
He said it was appropriate that the contributions to development are recognised and honoured, leading to organisation of the award ceremony.
He made the announcement on Wednesday in Tamale at a press conference organised by the assembly.
The award ceremony, dubbed ‘Mayor’s Excellence Awards’, is slated for June 30 this year in Tamale to appreciate outstanding citizens in development.
Mr Superior disclosed that the award ceremony was strictly funded by some philanthropists and corporate institutions.
He said certificates of recognition would be issued to 58 assembly members in the metropolis for their contributions towards the development of the local areas they represented.
He said special awards would be given to 10 people who were sector heads and previous mayors.
According to him, 50 other persons and corporations that were nominated by the citizens of Tamale and declared qualified through vetting would also receive awards.
Mr Superior said the gesture was also to encourage the winners and the entire people to do more in terms of development.
