Folks, one major happening that carved a bad name for ex-President Kufuor was his insatiable quest for foreign travel and per diem allowances, especially when he increased the allowances for himself and his bootlickers with an avid desire for jetting out of the country for whatever transaction that Ghana didn’t profit from.
Atta Mills picked up from the pieces and restrained himself from such wild foreign trips, even to the extent of refusing to take the per diem allowances. He remained so till his death. May he continue to rest in perfect peace while his detractors wallow in corruption and public shame.
For John Mahama, nothing about per diem allowances cropped up. It doesn’t mean that he and his functionaries didn’t take those allowances. They took them and kept their mouths shut. Ghanaians with short memory (as Mahama himself alluded to) forgot about it all. Too bad!!
Mahama has been swept aside by the Akufo-Addo team. Over the period that Akufo-Addo has been in power, he and his appointees have travelled to do “government business”, meaning that they have been paid or should be paid per diem allowances.
What is the quota now? How can a virtually dead economy inherited from an “incompetent” Mahama provide funds for the payment of such allowances?
In his own way Akufo-Addo has gone on foreign trips just as his appointees have done since being installed in office. We note that the tours by Akufo-Addo involve massive expenditure, even if they yield nothing to boost Ghana’s economy.
So far, all that has characterized Akufo-Addo’s visits to countries in the West African sub-region is the conferral of the highest national awards of those countries on him. What is the benefit to Ghana?
In the reckoning of enlightened monitors, Akufo-Addo is using such visits to ginger up support for his bid to become the ECOWAS Chair. So soon?
If so, I can say with much confidence and gumption that he is over-speeding to his own doom. The situation in Ghana under him us fluid.
Why not concentrate attention on solving Ghana’s problems as he outlined to the electorate and made huge promises on to win Election 2016 before seeking goodwill outside?
Too much bloating of one’s ego leads to disaster. It is clear that Akufo-Addo is inflating himself at the wrong time and occasion. Whatever is inflated as such ends up exploding in fragments.
Is that what the Danquah-Busia nonsense can offer Ghana under Akufo-Addo?
Or what Ghana needs to tackle the challenges that Akufo-Addo and Bawumia led the campaign of calumny against Mahama to offer Ghanaians?
A slippery course that Akufo-Addo is on for now. Only doom awaits him and his loud-mouthed empty braggarts. Their doom, my happiness. Out!!!
