Peter Sedufia Reveals Cost Efficiency of Filming ‘One Night Guests’ in Nigeria
They told me that if they were giving me the money, I had to shoot where the numbers are,” Sedufia shared.
Ghanaian filmmaker Peter Sedufia has revealed that producing his upcoming film, One Night Guests, in Nigeria was significantly less expensive than in Ghana. Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Sedufia explained that the decision to move production to Nigeria was purely a business choice, driven by the challenges of securing investors in Ghana.
“Finding investors in Ghana was quite tough. Even though people know your work and capabilities, there’s still skepticism. But in Nigeria, business people were more open and willing to invest. They told me that if they were giving me the money, I had to shoot where the numbers are,” Sedufia shared.
Despite his passion for filmmaking, Sedufia emphasized that producing films is a business, not a charity venture, and the decision to film in Nigeria made sense. He also pointed out the stark difference in production costs between the two countries. “It was less expensive to make the film in Nigeria. I rented equipment, such as cameras, for around $60-$65 a day, while in Ghana, the same equipment would have cost me about $500-$700 a day,” he noted.
One Night Guests is a suspenseful drama that delves into the complexities of human relationships and the unforeseen events that can alter lives. The movie features a blend of Nigerian and Ghanaian actors, including Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Warri Pikin, Roselyn Ngissah, James Gardiner, Lasisi Elenu, and Akah Nnani.
The film is set to premiere simultaneously in Ghana and Nigeria on Christmas Day, 2024, with screenings across cinemas in both countries. This dual premiere is expected to be a grand celebration, highlighting the unity and cultural exchange between Ghana and Nigeria.
One Night Guests is directed by Peter Sedufia and produced by OldFilm Productions (Ghana), Sozo Films (Nigeria), and Gravel Road Studios (South Africa).
