His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, today commissioned the 307 ambulances procured by the government to for distribution to the various constituencies in the country.
The event which took place at the Black star square in Accra, was to give the green light for the dispatch of the procured ambulances in an attempt to strengthen emergency healthcare services in Ghana.
The commissioning took place today after an earlier postponement from January 6, 2020, over claims that the training of Emergency Medical Technicians and installation of tracking devices were still ongoing.
The government expects the Ambulance Service to maintain this investment to ensure longevity.
It is further expecting that this ambulances will be put to good use to serve the good people of Ghana and add to ongoing efforts to secure livelihoods.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the “307 brand new, state-of-the-art ambulances, fitted with advanced life support equipment and tracking devices, would be distributed to 275 constituencies, (1-Constituency-1-Ambulance) and would be managed by the National Ambulance Service”.
He said the remainder of 32 ambulances would go to the headquarters of the Service.
“This is the single largest presentation of ambulances made to the Ghana Ambulance Service, since its establishment in 2004. As against the scenario whereby 1 ambulance served approximately 524,000 people at the end of December 2016, today, we have a much-improved ratio of 1 ambulance serving approximately 84,000 people,” the President further revealed.
