PNC writes to EC to rescind decision

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has provided evidence to the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) on the dismissal of the party’s National Chairman, Moses Danibaah, and the 2020 Presidential Candidate, David Apasera.

The opposition party, therefore, wants the Commission to rescind its decision not to engage the party until its leadership crisis is resolved.

The Deputy EC Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, had on Monday, November 7, 2022 written to the party after the embattled National Chairman had earlier drawn attention of the Commission on the agreed roadmap for reorganisation.

Mr Tettey made clear the intention of the Commission not to have anything to do with the PNC “until the leadership crisis is resolved”.

But a reply by General Secretary Janet Asana Nabla expressed dissatisfaction about the decision, explaining the circumstances under which the duo were dismissed.

“The Party is highly dissatisfied with such decision from your office as we have provided enough evidence to show that the party dismissed Dani Baah and David Apasera,” the reply to Mr Tettey said.

“The duo took the PNC to court after they were suspended for embezzlement of party funds and misconduct. The court directed them back to the Party to seek redress. They went to do their ‘own thing’ and went back to the court again, only to abandon the court process.

“The Party using its appropriate constitutional provisions (article 14(1a) and (1b) in particular) to finally dismissed them. Find attached the relevant documents of their dismissal. They only resurfaced when the Party announced a road map and started organizing its internal elections.”

The PNC is calling on the EC to “immediately revert its decision taking into consideration the evidence provided”.
